Description

Brimscombe Court is a large, detached house, dating to around 1800, and now subdivided. It is constructed of ashlar limestone, with ashlar chimneys and a Welsh slate roof. The house has a double-pile plan and three storeys, with a cellar and a two-storey section at the north end.

The east front has a five-window arrangement. The ground floor windows are sash windows without glazing bars; the middle floor windows have 12 panes, and the upper floor windows have 6 panes. A plain band runs along the upper floor level. A central doorway is topped with a pedimented Ionic porch, moulded architraves, and an eight-panel fielded door. The eaves have a modillion cornice and a blocking course, and the roof is hipped. The lower two-storey section to the right has a three-window arrangement, with much of the glazing bar pattern removed.

The west front has a three-window arrangement; the middle floor window is a Venetian window with glazing bars. A central six-panel door gives access to the cellar, flanked by single-pane windows. To the left, the lower block has a single window, with four-pane sashes above the cellar door and a rectangular light above. A lean-to outbuilding projects to the right, featuring a doorway with a moulded architrave and keystone. The modillion cornices and blocking course extend from the main front.

The sides have mixed sash fenestration; the north end features a blocked Diocletian window above the two-storey block. The central part of the parapet sweeps up to meet two chimneys with moulded caps.

Inside, the main staircase has turned balusters and a swept handrail. Other rooms were not inspected. Brimscombe Cottage, listed separately, adjoins the main building to the north.
