Description
The Nook is a detached house built in the late 17th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with an artificial stone rebuilt chimney and has a stone slate roof. The house is two stories high with an attic, and the upper floor entry is located on the west side.
On the west side, there are two gables and a two-window arrangement featuring 2-light chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, although most are 20th-century replacements except for one attic casement. There are also small single-light upper attic windows with flat hoods. The central doorway on this side is a 20th-century addition with a plank door.
The south end has a gable with a single-window upper floor and attic, both featuring 3-light casements with hoodmoulds, along with a small attic single-light window with a flat hood similar to the west side. The east side has two gables, with 20th-century replacement mullioned windows on the ground floor and a central raking buttress. The upper floors of the right gable have chamfered mullioned casements, with a 4-light window on the upper floor and a 3-light window in the attic, plus a small single-light window above.
The interior has been extensively altered during a 20th-century restoration carried out by the Period Cottage Improvement Society. The Nook is part of a group with the office at Churches Mill.
