Description
The Kings Head is an inn dating from the early 19th century, recorded as an inn by 1834. It is constructed of brick, with the ground floor rendered, and features a painted moulded cornice and parapet. The slate roof has coped verges that rise to meet brick end stacks. The building consists of a large three-storey range with symmetrical small single-storey wings on either side.
The second floor has three sash windows arranged as 12/9/12-pane, while the first floor features 16/12/16-pane windows. All windows have painted splayed voussoirs and keystones. The ground floor includes a similar arrangement of 16-pane windows flanking a projecting small Doric portico, which has painted unfluted columns, a 20th-century door, and a decorative radial fanlight set in a rectangular surround. There is an additional "cornice" that marks the top of the rendered section above the sill level of the first floor and is interrupted by the windows. The side wings are blind. Although the interior has been much altered, it retains several moulded door surrounds on the ground floor.
