Description
Dursley Mill, located to the north-west of Mill Farmhouse, is a former small mill that has been converted into a farm vehicle garage. It dates from the mid-17th century and is constructed of coursed rubble made from a mix of limestone and marlstone, topped with a stone slate roof. The building is single-storey with an attic and features a lean-to on its south-east side.
On the north-west side, there are original mullioned openings alongside some casement windows. At low level, there is a central two-light window flanked by three-light windows, one of which has been altered to a doorway that is now blocked. Each light of the window to the left has a central vertical iron bar, while the casements have been removed. There is also a central two-light mullioned casement at a higher level, all featuring recessed mouldings and hoodmoulds. A blocked brick segmental-arched doorway is located at the left-hand end.
The north-east end of the building is gabled and includes a single brick segmental-arched casement, with another casement above in the attic that has a timber lintel. The south-west end has a large 20th-century opening with a concrete lintel and a large multi-paned fixed light in the attic. The south-east side is built into a bank and features two brick segmental-arched casements to the right of the weatherboarded lean-to, which has a corrugated iron roof.
The interior has been altered during its 20th-century conversion, but the attic floor remains intact with corn hoist trap doors. Despite these changes, Dursley Mill is an important surviving example of a 17th-century woollen mill.
