Description
This is a barn located to the south of Holcombe House, dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed of large coursed and squared limestone near-ashlar and features a thatched roof with coped gables. The barn has five bays and includes a lower wing attached to the rear left.
On the road side, there are three buttresses on the left, positioned beneath two ventilation slits. The central area has large plank doors set under a wooden lintel, while to the right there is a single slit. At this end, some rubble walling is visible at the plinth level. The right gable has a deep loading area that partly incorporates a ventilation slit, while the left gable features three ventilation slits above two large arched openings and a 20th-century glazed door, along with a low flying buttress. There is a flight of steps leading to a loading door in the extension on the left.
The back of the barn has a deep cart entry and a low lean-to roof with weatherboard infill, along with a deep wing to the right that includes a two-light casement window and a door. On the left side, there is an opening leading to the main barns. The interior contains old collar and tie trusses with two purlins, and part of the barn is floored. This barn is an important part of the group with Holcombe House.
