Description

This is a section of a field wall, approximately 25 yards long, located to the southeast of Spout Cottage. It dates from the mid-19th century and incorporates an old spring head, which gives Spout Cottage its name. The drystone wall stands about 5 feet 6 inches high. At the north-western end, the spring head is set in an arched recess made of dressed stones, with water collecting in a D-shaped stone trough below. To the southeast, there is a built-up recess that contains a pump made of large squared stones and a lintel. The pump is a plain design with a handle and dates from around 1900.
