Description
The buildings adjoining the Old Mill at Longford Mill are a group of structures that date from the mid-19th century and include several notable features. Building 5 is a two-storey structure from the mid-19th century, located to the northeast of Building 2, with a lean-to roof extending to the east and segmental-arched windows on the north side. Building 6, marked as a carriage shed on an 1884 map, has a lean-to roof extending to the north and features a semi-circular arched doorway on the west side. Building 7, constructed between 1803 and 1830 (likely in 1804), is a two-storey building with a long rectangular plan and a basement, displaying a six-window arrangement. The south elevation includes a 20th-century door on the left and a blocked door on the right, with timber lintels over blocked basement openings and two-light flat-faced stone mullioned windows. The north elevation has similar windows, blocked at ground level, while the east gable features a timber lintel above a 19th-century plank door leading to the basement. Buildings 9 and 9A, which include a gig house from 1830 to 1881 and a potting shed, respectively, consist of an outshut to the north. Inside, Building 7 has a collar-truss roof and the north lean-to contains two teazle-raising gigs dated 1868 on their handles, as well as tanks used for dyeing or finishing cloth.
