Description

This is a large mill building located at Low Mills, dating from the early 19th century with later additions from the late 19th century. The structure is built of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs. The northeast street front consists of 39 bays and rises three stories. It has a deep plinth, quoins, continuous cill bands, and bracketed eaves on the late 19th century sections.

From the east, there is a late 19th century 18-bay block and a recessed three-bay gabled block. To the left, there is a large round-headed cart entrance, followed by 19 round-headed windows that have moulded voussoirs and keystones, along with a continuous impost band. Above these are 21 segment-headed windows, and further up, there are two single windows to the left, then 15 pairs of segment-headed windows, and a further pair flanked by single windows in the recessed section to the right, plus an upper round-headed window in the gable.

To the right, an early 19th century block features an off-centre blocked cart entrance, with five boarded windows to the left and three partly blocked to the right. Above this section are ten plain sash windows on each of the upper floors. Further to the right is another late 19th century block that has two recessed gabled bays and six additional bays with similar window styles to the eastern block. The four-bay northwest gabled front also displays similar fenestration.

The southwest front has 34 bays and is three stories high. It begins with a six-bay section, followed by a two-bay gabled section with raking-in doors, then a five-bay section, and a projecting four-bay toilet block. Beyond this is a 16-bay block that culminates in a single gabled bay over the cart entrance to the south. Many of the windows on this front are blocked or boarded.
