Description
The Grey Cottage is a mid-19th century house located at the end of a short row on Gloucester Street in Painswick. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a concrete tile roof and stands 2½ storeys tall, featuring four windows. On the ground floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows flanking a panelled 19th-century door with a transom light. The first floor has three 12-pane sashes, with a possible fourth sash on the far left that may belong to Hillworth Cottage. The top floor is adorned with three flush gabled half-dormers, each with 4-pane sashes, and there is a 4-pane sash window at eaves level centered above the doorway. The house has two brick chimneys. A first-floor plat band runs continuously with the adjoining house, and it appears that the top floor was added later. The Grey Cottage is included mainly for its group value, contributing to the character of this section of the street.
