Description
Folly Cottage is a detached house that dates from the late 17th century, with an enlargement from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, featuring rebuilt chimneys made of ashlar and artificial stone, and has a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high and has a rear wing that forms an L-shape. There are 20th-century additions to both the east and west ends of the cottage.
The front of the cottage has the earliest part on the left, with an extension to the right. It features two-window chamfered mullioned fenestration, with a three-light window on the ground floor flanking a central chamfered doorway that has a hoodmould rising over the lintel. There are three dormers at the eaves level, each with 2-light casements and a circular light above, made of iron. The former east end has an ashlar gable end chimney with a moulded cap. At the rear, there is a gabled wing to the right, with a blocked upper floor single-light opening above a single-storey 20th-century flat-roofed addition, and a flat-roofed attic dormer from the same period. The interior has not been inspected.
