Description

Winnycroft Farmhouse includes a barn approximately 20 meters to the west, dating from the late 18th century. This threshing barn and stables have been converted into a storage outbuilding. The structure is weatherboarded and timber-framed, resting on a plinth of coursed limestone rubble with a chamfered cap, and topped with a corrugated metal sheet roof. The barn has a rectangular plan consisting of three bays with additional end extension bays.

On the exterior, there are opposing central boarded double doors from the 19th century, a boarded stable door, and a gable end loft window. The southern extension, which houses the stables, is also weatherboarded and features a plain clay tile roof.

Inside, the barn has a twin tenoned-purlin roof with original rafters that include long straight wind-braces half-lapped over, and battens for thatch. The interior features simple collar and tie-beam trusses with straight braces, external trusses with collars and vertical struts above and below, as well as wall frames below the tie beams and full height vertical struts with long straight tension braces. There is an inserted loft floor in the north bay, with a brick floor in the south bay and a stone slab floor in the north bay. The extension's interior also has a three-bay twin tenoned-purlin roof, with trusses that include a straight tie-beam and collar, and additional vertical struts in the external truss, along with three 19th-century stall partitions. This barn is part of a notable late 18th-century group at Winnycroft Farm.
