Description

Little Court is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled and extended in the 18th century and altered around the early 19th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone with an English bond brick front and a south gable end featuring both Flemish and English bond brickwork. The house has stone and brick gable-end stacks with brick shafts.

The building has a two-room plan front range from the 18th century, with a central entrance and stairhall. The rear right-hand wing is from the 17th century, and there is a late 20th-century extension in the angle. To the left end, there is a 19th-century outbuilding in an outshut.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a symmetrical three-window west front. It features 16-pane sash windows with rusticated stone heads, and the central first-floor window is a narrower 12-pane sash. The central doorway has a moulded architrave with roundels in the corners, a moulded cornice hood, and a flush-panel door with glazed top panels. The rear has a two-light stone mullion window on the ground floor of the main range to the left, while the gable-ended wing on the right has a three-light stone mullion window with a hoodmould and a later brick stack. The 20th-century extension is located in the angle.

Inside, there are panelled window shutters and two-panel doors. The dog-leg staircase features square newels with arris moulding, a rounded handrail, and thick stick balusters. The stairhall has a stone flag floor. The left room has an 18th-century chimneypiece with a moulded shelf and chamfered cross-beams with cyma stops. The roof has staggered tenon-purlins, with trusses that include high collars and struts, while the rear wing has a large collar truss.
