Description
The Taylor Monument is a chest tomb located about 11 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. Mary, dating from 1721 and dedicated to Edward Taylor. It is constructed from stone with a brick plinth. The tomb features a flat lid that has a margin and scrolls in the corners, with a plain chamfer on the underside. The sides are plain and framed by thick, plain ends. The monument rests on a low brick plinth, which is raised at one end above the path. The inscription is located on the lid, with the lettering being well cut and preserved, including a long 's' in the first part. There are later inscriptions added in 1764. The first inscription commemorates the carpenter who designed and executed the wide span roof of the church nave.
