Description
The Yearsley monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, about 9 metres south of the southeast corner of the south aisle of the Church of St. John the Baptist. It was erected in 1817 and is made of stone. The tomb features a moulded edge on the lid and a slight step leading to a flat cyma moulded centre. Below this, there is a leaf frieze with slightly raised oval panels on the sides and oval paterae in the corners. The corners are adorned with elongated quarter-square balusters, and the plinth has a moulded top. The inscription includes some italic lettering and commemorates Stephen Yearsley, who died in 1817, as well as one son who died in 1805 and various other inscriptions from the late 19th century.
