Description
This is a late 17th-century farmhouse, altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, brick nogging, rough render, and a thatched roof, arranged in an "L" shape. A brick plinth is visible at the base. The facade facing the road is flush, with a gable visible on the left. A four-panel front door, set one stone step above ground level to the right of the gable, is sheltered by a gabled timber lattice porch. To the right of the door are two two-light casement windows with iron opening lights, and to the left are two similar windows. A tiled-roof lean-to extension is on the left side, featuring two modern casement windows, one of which fills in the location of a former doorway. A two-light casement window is in the gable, with exposed rafters and a decorative timber finial at the apex. A similar dormer window is on the right side, featuring a swept roof. A large brick chimney stands behind the ridge, opposite the front door. Internally, timber framing is exposed on the first floor towards the right end and along the rear wall. The roof structure includes a square ridge and a pair of purlins, and most of the timber framing appears to be intact behind the decorative finishes. A first-floor framing arrangement of three panels to the eaves, with thin timber slats in most brick-nogged panels, is visible in a late 19th-century photograph, which also shows the front door located in the cross wing where a window now stands. A lean-to, previously a cider house, is shown on the left in a photograph owned by the current owner.
