Description

The barn and shelter shed at Brown's End, built in 1839 by J.G. Price, is a Grade II listed structure located in Bromsberrow Village. It features random rubble stone construction with brick dressings around the openings and corners, topped with a slate roof. The barn has a central threshing floor and is accompanied by a 5-bay shelter shed that is positioned at right angles, all at a single storey.

The barn faces the house and has double boarded doors set on timber door posts that rise to a cambered timber head, just below a heavy wallplate. There are semi-circular headed openings on either side, which are filled with brick ventilating grilles. The roof is hipped. Inside, the barn has a stone-paved threshing floor, with a low boarded wall on the right that stops short of the external wall at the far end; the left wall was originally similar but has since been removed. The roof structure consists of five bays, with the center bay being the widest, featuring queen-post trusses secured with iron bolts, two pairs of purlins, and a short king post off the collar to support the ridge plank.

Behind the barn is a walled yard for cattle, which includes an open-fronted shed for loose cattle on the left, supported by timber posts on stone bases, with a hipped roof at the right end. This shed is of the same date as the barn, although it covers a large grille. Internally, it has two pairs of purlins supported by angled struts off tie beams, with the tie beams being reused crucks. The ridge is made of planks. The buildings have seen little alteration and are related to the nearby house, although the doors facing the house have been partly patched and modified.
