Description

1 and 2, Gate Cottages are two former cottages, originally three, built in the mid-19th century, likely for the Bromsberrow Place estate. The cottages feature random rubble stonework with brick dressings and a tiled roof, designed in an 'L' plan layout, measuring four by three, with wings that are one room deep and lean-tos at the rear in the angle.

The facade facing the road is symmetrical with a slightly projecting center. On the left, there is a single-light casement window with a shouldered head frame and a cambered brick arch above it. To the right, there is a boarded door accessed by one stone step, featuring a pointed head and located under an open-gabled porch with lattice sides. There is a canted oriel window on shaped brackets to the left, with a two-light casement window, each light having a semi-circular head, topped with a swept hipped roof. The oriel is set back, with a door and window to the right, styled similarly to the left side.

The central projection has two gables, each with a two-light casement window featuring semi-circular heads under a cambered brick arch. The verge has a marked projection, and there is a square chimney base in the center with four diamond-set stacks above. On the left return, there is a two-light casement window on the right, matching the front, and a single-light window with a shouldered top frame and cambered brick arch. This side also features a single-storey gabled brick porch with buttresses, a boarded door with a pointed head, and a canted oriel window to the left, similar to the front. The first floor includes a gable to the right with a triangular oriel on a bracket and a swept hipped head, alongside a large chimney base to the left with two diamond-set stacks and a two-light casement window in a gabled dormer.
