Description
The Bakehouse at Brown's End is a detached structure, likely built in the late 17th century, with some later alterations. It features brick-nogged timber framing that rises three panels high to the eaves and is topped with a tiled roof. The building is a single room, with one and a half stories. On the right side, there is a boarded door at the gable end, accompanied by a single-light casement window, while a blocked window is located to the left. A three-light casement window is set into the gable, and the interior includes a tie-beam and collar truss. On the left side, there is a single-light window positioned left of center, with exposed beam ends on the first floor and missing studs in the framing. A large, wide external brick chimney is situated against the rear gable. Inside, there are three plastered beams on the ground floor with beaded edges, and the stairs are boarded off on the left. At the rear, there are two ovens and a large hearth, with a copper added later. This bakehouse is an interesting survival with only minor alterations and forms a group with Brown's End.
