Description
The Laurels is a former rectory, now serving as an old people's home, built in the early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a slate roof. The building has a three-window front, stands three storeys tall, and is three rooms deep, with the roof sloping down to a low two-storey section at the rear. The front has a plinth with a slight recess in the center. Access is via six stone steps leading to a six-panel front door, which has flush bottom panels, a fielded center panel, and a glazed top panel. The door is framed by a moulded timber surround and topped with a rectangular ornamental fanlight, all sheltered by a cast-iron open gabled porch supported by cast-iron columns and featuring a glazed roof.
To either side of the door are tripartite sash windows with rubbed brick arches. The brickwork below the plain stone string course is painted, which extends to the first-floor window sills. The first floor has three sash windows, each with rubbed brick arches and a semi-circular head over the central recess. The top floor features three 6-pane sashes with rubbed brick arches, and the building has parapet eaves with plain stone coping. Brick gable chimneys project slightly from the main structure. Inside, there is Greek key decoration on the pilasters flanking a former opening between two rooms on the right. The rectory was likely built around 1823 for Reverend Hill, as previous resident rectors lived at Bromsberrow Place.
