Description

The Phillips Memorial is a chest tomb located about 23 metres east of the south aisle in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints in Newland. It dates from the mid-18th century and belongs to the Phillips family. The earliest inscription is for Mary Phillips, who died in 1756, and is found on a renewed panel on the south side. The north side features an inscription for William Phillips, who died in 1774 and was a coalminer from Coleford. The tomb is made of sandstone and has a flat top with moulded capping, heavy bolstered ends, and inscriptions displayed in fielded rectangular panels.
