Description
The K6 telephone kiosk, designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, is a standardised structure made of cast iron and painted red. It features long horizontal glazing on the door and sides, with crowns on the top panels that are applied rather than perforated. There are rectangular white display signs reading "TELEPHONE" beneath the shallow curved roof.
The kiosk is in good overall condition, although it is missing a glazing bar and several panes, and the telephone equipment has been removed.
It is situated on the north side of The Green in the village of Newnham, next to the Medieval Ringwork Castle and associated Civil War earthwork defence, which is a Scheduled Monument. The kiosk overlooks the Severn Vale and is close to The Castle House (Grade II), the Church of St Peter (Grade II), and several Grade II listed monuments in the churchyard. The telephone kiosk has a strong visual connection with these listed buildings and the Scheduled Monument.
