Description
The Castle House is a free-standing house, believed to have once served as a bank, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a modillion parapet cornice and a Welsh slate roof. The building has a gabled block with a hipped rear extension for the staircase, and a large lower wing attached to the right.
It stands three storeys tall and has three windows, which are sashes with glazing bars set under stepped flat arches with projecting keys. The entrance consists of a six-panel door topped with a fanlight, and is sheltered by a flat projecting hood that has a horizontally reeded frieze and soffit to the cornice projection, supported by wrought iron brackets.
At the rear, there is a stair projection featuring a very long round-headed sash window with bars. Additionally, on the right side at the rear, there is a 19th-century canted bay with French doors leading to a balcony adorned with an anthemion ornament rail, and a three-light casement window. The interior includes an early 19th-century staircase.
