Description
This late 19th-century lamp post is located in the churchyard of the Church of St. John the Baptist, about 1.5 meters northeast of the gate from the school. The lamp post is made of cast iron with wrought iron decoration. It features a flared base, a fluted stem, a crossbar, and a moulded top. At the top is a swan-neck design with wrought iron details, leading to a clear glass ball that is spherical in shape. The ball is open at both the top and bottom and is made up of 12 pieces of glass held in a copper frame. It has a wide central band decorated with acroteria and a pierced ring at the top that fans out with a crinkled edge. The lamp post has been adapted for electricity, though it was likely originally designed for oil. There is some broken glass, and it is one of two similar lamp posts. The base is marked with '..... & Padmore, Gloucester', with the first word not legible but likely to be Hardy.
