Description
The Elliot Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 2.5 meters east of the southeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St. John the Baptist. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a weathered top with a heavy projecting moulding along the edge. It has quarter-square corner balusters and raised moulded panels on the sides and the west end for inscriptions. The east end is adorned with a carving of an urn with scroll handles. The monument commemorates Hester, the wife of Thomas Elliott, who died in 1777, Thomas Elliott himself, who died in 1803, and several others, with the latest inscription dating to 1852.
