Description
Priory Cottage is a detached house located off Awre Road in Bledisloe. It dates from the 17th century, with an early 19th-century wing added. The building features a mix of rubble and painted brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof that is hipped over the extension. The property is divided into two units, with the older gabled section connected to the taller hipped extension.
The main facade faces north towards the river and consists of two storeys plus a central dormer. The older section has two widely spaced windows, while the extension has two windows as well. On the ground floor, there is a new canted bay window and a four-panel door set within a new porch. The windows are sash style with glazing bars. The first floor has two pairs of sash windows with glazing bars, and a small two-light casement dormer.
Inside, there is a large fireplace and stack on the left side, flanked by a stone newel staircase. The roof features untreated oak with heavy pegged members. In the entrance hall on the south side, there is a reused barge mast or spar serving as a beam.
