Description
Glebelands is a detached house dating from the 15th century, with a 17th-century extension and further alterations made in 1979. The building features a timber frame with brick nogging and a stone plinth, while the gable is made of random rubble, and the upper part is constructed of irregular-bond yellow brick. The 1979 extension is made of rendered concrete block with dummy framing and has a thatched roof. The house has two bays and was extended by one bay on the right side, standing at one and a half storeys.
The front of the house includes an open timber porch with a tiled lean-to roof, leading to a boarded door. On the right side, there is a three-pane timber window, and on the left, a tie to a cruck truss penetrates the stud, beyond which is a four-pane wooden window with a curved brace. The stone end of the gable is visible, and there is a two-light wooden casement window in the dormer. The left gable features stone and brick with a plain chimney, and there is a weatherboarded lean-to extension above part of it, topped with a double-roman tile roof.
Inside, the entrance leads into a narrow bay, with a cruck truss on the left that was probably originally open. The ground and first floors have boarded doors set in the truss. The ground floor room on the left has a heavily chamfered longitudinal ceiling beam and a large fireplace with an iron range at the back, a crane above, and an oven on the right. A spiral stair was formerly located in a recess on the left. The narrow bay was reported to have been half-open to the roof until the 1979 extension replaced the lean-to.
