Description
Broad's Orchard is a house that likely dates back to the 15th century, with later additions. It features timber framing with white-painted rendered infill and a thatched roof, along with brick lean-tos. The house has two bays and is two stories tall, with the upper part in the roof. There are later single-storey lean-to extensions at each end. The front wall displays two-panel high framing, with a blocked door on the left that has an elliptical-shaped timber head. To the right, there are two two-light wooden windows, a boarded door, and a two-light casement window, with the top of a tension brace visible beyond. A boarded door is located in the lean-to, while the main entrance was added in 1984. The right-hand gable features a cruck, and there is a brick chimney rising from the front eaves. The left end has a half-hip and a centrally located brick chimney. Inside, there is a central cruck truss with lapped joints, chamfered joists in the left-hand room, and a large brick gable fireplace with seats on each side and a salt cupboard in the back. An oven on the left blocks the original entrance, with an iron door located in the lean-to beyond.
