Description

This milestone, located about 85 meters north of the Rose and Crown Public House, was erected in 1898. It is made of cast iron and features a hollow triangular shape with a splayed top and ribbed edges. The top of the milestone has the inscription 'PLAYLEY/GREEN/' with a hand pointing to the left. On the left side, there is a hand pointing to the right, indicating 'GLOUCESTER/10 MILES', with 'COUNTY OF/WORCESTER/1898' in smaller letters below. The right side has a hand pointing to the left, stating 'LEDBURY/6 MILES', with additional smaller lettering below that reads '......./IRON /IRON'. This milestone is part of a series of three located in this and Staunton parishes, which were in Worcestershire until the 20th century.
