Description
The Brambles is a cottage built in 1847 by F. O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land Company, with later alterations. It features rendered random rubble walls and a slate roof. The front of the building is three rooms wide, with the center section projecting slightly, and there is a long single-storey rear wing. The entrance has a fully-glazed mid-20th century front door, which is covered by a half-glazed porch that is open at the front. On either side of the door are tall, six-pane casements in their original openings, with a dumb-bell ventilator above in the gable and plain verge rafters. Each wing has a two-light mid-20th century iron casement in its original opening. The roof is hipped, and there is a chimney located at the center rear and set well back on the right return. The Brambles is part of a Chartist settlement and is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance.
