Description
Brandon is a cottage built in 1848 by F. O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land Company, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features painted render on stone walls, rendered quoins, and a slate roof. It has a three-room front and is one room deep, with a leanto at the rear and an extension on the left, making it single storey.
The front of the cottage has mid to late 20th century metal windows in the original openings, with rendered surrounds. There is a central doorway that has been infilled with a plain panel below and a single pane above, although the steps are missing. On each side of the doorway, there are single-light windows, and the roof has plain verge rafters supported on consoles. The gable ventilator is missing. Each wing contains a two-light window, and there is a central chimney at the rear. The rear leanto has been partly rebuilt in brick. Originally, the cottage had a 3-acre holding and is part of a Chartist settlement. It is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance.
