Description
Jeanicia is a cottage built in 1848 by F. O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land Company, with later alterations. It features rendered walls and a slate roof. The building has a three-room front that is one room deep, with a single-storey lean-to at the rear. The front faces the road and includes a plinth and stepped, rendered voussoirs above each opening. The central room projects slightly and has a central, half-glazed door from the 20th century that is accessed by steps, with a single-pane window on each side. There is a plain string course at the base of the gable and a single oversailing course at the verge, with verge rafters supported on consoles at the bottom. A quatrefoil vent is located in the gable. The wings contain two-light casements from the mid-20th century. The gable chimneys are slightly corbelled out, with a third chimney on the right side of the central gable. The cottage is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance and forms a group with other Chartist buildings along Ledbury Road, originally associated with a two-acre holding.
