Description
Sniggs End is a cottage built in 1848 by F. O'Connor for the National Co-operative Land Company, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features roughly squared stone on a stone plinth, with rendered quoins and a slate roof. The cottage has a three-room front and is one room deep, with a lean-to at the rear, and is single storey. The front windows have mid-20th century metal casements in the original openings, with rendered surrounds and stone voussoirs above flat arches.
On the garden front, the center room projects slightly and has a fully glazed metal door that leads up two steps to an open porch with trellis sides and a boarded gable. There is a single-light window on each side of the door and a trefoil ventilator in the gable. The cottage has plain bargeboards and two-light casements in the wings, along with a plain timber eaves fascia. There are chimneys at the gable and center rear. Sniggs End forms a group with other Chartist cottages and was originally associated with a 3 or 4-acre holding. It is listed mainly for its sociological and historical significance.
