Description
Etloe House Farmhouse is a dwelling, formerly a farmhouse, that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It is constructed of coursed rubble, though it has been rendered, and features a jettied timber frame on the east gable facing the street, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with the longer wing presenting a jettied gable to the street. This wing contains an earlier jettied wall, complete with a window that is set back from the current wall. There is a large stone chimney stack on the right side near the gable, and a second stack on the left side of the return wing, which is attached to a stable wing on the right. The entrance is located at the internal corner of the L-shape. There is a basement beneath the street gable that features a heavy Tudor timber-framed door. The main structure has two storeys, with the main wing having two windows and the return wing having one window, all fitted with casements under wooden lintels. The gable on the main floor has a 18th-century sash window with glazing bars and a small dormer. Inside, there are two oak newel staircases—one opposite the door and another beside the kitchen chimney stack. The interior showcases exposed timber framing, particularly in the long wing, and features a very heavy roof structure, including wind bracing over the kitchen wing. This property is significant and merits further investigation.
