Description

The Nelme monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 1 meter west of the nave of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a wide projection and a moulded edge, lyre ends, and scrolls that frame an hourglass, along with fronds and an urn. The sides of the tomb have a rectangular panel with narrow panels at each end made of different stone, adorned with swags and scrolls. It stands on a plain, chamfered plinth. The monument commemorates William Nelme, who died in 1702, with a further inscription added in 1729.
