Description
The former Post Office, now a dwelling and shop, dates back to the 16th century but was significantly remodeled in the 19th century. The building is rendered with a double-roman tile roof and features a brick gable stack on the left. Facing the road, it has two storeys and a three-windowed front, all from the 19th century. This includes three eight-pane sash windows above one 12-pane fixed sash that incorporates a post-box, along with a three-light shop front, a 20th-century door with a transom light, and another 12-pane sash window.
On the left side, there is a four-pane casement window beneath a similar window. A blocked light is visible under a dripstone, and there is a 19th-century lean-to structure at the back. The rear features a two-light mullioned casement, which is partially hidden by the lean-to roof. This wall also has a two-light cusped casement with a drip over the remains of a similar window that is now blocked, reminiscent of work found in the Malt House.
Inside, the building boasts a large stone bressummer fireplace with stone cheeks, a stone spiral staircase, and a fine 17th-century door made from panelling, along with stop-chamfered beams. The unremarkable exterior conceals important historical fragments.
