Description
Abbey House is a dwelling that dates back to the 16th century but was significantly remodeled in the 19th century. The building is rendered and has a tiled roof. It stands two storeys tall and features a two-windowed facade with four-pane sash windows set beneath wood lintels and stone sills. The central entrance has a 20th-century door framed by a much-worn moulded stone surround and a heavy lintel. On the left side, there is one window and a stone stack, while the right gable shows remnants of a two-light casement window with a drip.
Inside, there is a 16th-century stone fireplace with a moulded surround that features fleur-de-lys in the spandrels, along with Art Nouveau details on the cheeks. The interior also has remnants of a decorative plastered ceiling, which includes corner swags and a moulded cornice, possibly from the 17th century. Upstairs, there are some light timber-framed partitions and chamfered beams. The staircase at the center back has been replaced, and there are remains of a two-light stone mullioned casement window. Some walls of the house are unusually thick.
