Description

Glen Wye is a detached dwelling that dates from the 16th or 17th century. It features a rendered exterior and a double roman tile roof with a large gable stack facing the road. The building has a T-shaped plan, with the gable side oriented towards the River Wye and a short gabled extension forming the central arm of the T towards the road.

The road elevation is one storey high and includes a small 2-light 19th-century casement window and a 20th-century glazed door, which is positioned close to the arm of the building that has been bevelled off to create extra space for the door. To the right, there are two storeys with a 9-pane casement window and a 12-pane sash window. At the rear, there is a 2-light 19th-century casement window above a canted 19th-century bay window. On the far side, two 2-light chamfered mullion casements are situated above 20th-century panel doors.

A later extension has been added to the back at the north end. Inside, there is a large bressummer fireplace flanked by a spiral staircase on the road front, and opposite, there is a 2-light 17th-century window and a door set in a 4-centred opening. One large beam with a stopped chamfer remains. This house has been significantly modified over time but retains its early origins and is located at an important site within the settlement.
