Description
The Eldridge Monument is a headstone located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary, about 6 meters north of the nave and slightly west of the eastern window. It commemorates Henry Eldridge, who died in 1661. The stone features an elliptical head with a wide projection, adorned with scrolls at the ends and cyma and roll moulding leading to a dummy keystone. There is roll moulding down the sides and a chamfer on the back. The headstone is set into the ground and displays good lettering in all capitals, with flourishes on the main initial letters. It is noted as the earliest decipherable headstone in the churchyard and remains in good condition.
