Description
Kilmorie is a small house built in 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor, with later extensions. The building features painted brickwork and a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof. It has a four-bay front and a lean-to extension at the rear on the right, while the left side has a gabled extension, all at a single storey.
On the right side, there is a two-light casement window with small panes and a rubbed brick arch above. The slightly projecting gabled bay on the left contains a central half-glazed door flanked by marginal lights, with two flush panels below and a flat rubbed brick arch above. Tall single-light windows with small panes and similar heads are located on either side of the door. Above the gable, there is a plain string course, a slightly projecting brick course at the verge, and a stone quatrefoil ventilator in the center.
To the left, there is a similar window to the first bay, along with a shorter window in the single-bay extension. The main frontage features a slightly projecting brick course at the eaves. A brick chimney is located on the right gable, at the rear behind the door, and between the two bays on the left. The gable of the rear extension rises above the roof on the left end. Originally, the house was set on a 2-acre plot and is notable for having been extended at one end, while the front remains largely unaltered. Kilmorie is listed primarily for its historical and sociological significance and forms part of a group with other Chartist cottages and Snig's End Farm.
