Description
This barn, dating from the 17th century, is located about 25 metres west of Purton Manor Farmhouse. It is constructed from thin bedded sandstone rubble and has a corrugated asbestos cement roof. The barn features a three-gabled design and is 1½ storeys high, facing the farmhouse across a yard. Each gable includes two circular windows set in a square field, and there is a central doorway that is accessed by a steep stone and concrete stairway.
On the ground floor, there is a three-light reserved chamfer casement window beneath a stopped drip, alongside a plank door framed in heavy moulded wood. This arrangement is mirrored in the right gable, with a three-light casement window located centrally above the door. The interior consists of six bays and has a two-purlin collar roof, with the entire space floored at the first floor level. At the back of the barn, there are two doors, and the south gable features one ventilation slit positioned above two others. This barn is an important surviving element of the farm, alongside the contemporary farmhouse.
