Description

Tanhouse Farmhouse, built in 1709, is a farmhouse constructed of coursed rubble stone with long and short quoin blocks. It features a flat band above the arches of the ground floor windows and a swept slate hipped roof with coved wooden eaves. The farmhouse is a square range, two storeys and an attic, with five windows featuring wood mullion and transom casements with rubble stone voussoirs. Two hipped dormers are present. A central doorcase has a bolection moulded architrave and a pulvinated frieze. The interior retains much original joinery, including a fine panelled room at the rear. A lower wing to the right is not included in the listing.

A garden wall of coursed rubble stone runs along the front face, punctuated by four piers topped with stone pineapple finials and supporting iron railings and gates. A stone bridge, crossing a stream in front of the property, is supported by two low piers with pyramidal finials.
