Description

Oak House is a house, now serving as a home for individuals with mental disabilities. It dates from the late 18th century, built on a 17th-century core. The exterior is finished in stucco with a hipped roof made of concrete slate and features two stone end stacks and a parapet. The building has an L-shape with a separate wing to the left and stands three storeys tall.

The front facade has three windows, which are glazing bar sashes with flush sash boxes arranged in a triple: single: triple pattern. These windows have large voussoirs and grooved keystones. The ground floor also features three windows, which are 12-pane sashes. To the left, there is a door with a large flat wooden hood that has a cornice and a reeded doorcase. The original door has only two lower panels remaining. The wing to the left has two windows similar to the main range, with some Gothick interlaced tracery on the left return. On the right return of the main range, there are some leaded mullion and transom casements, along with a Venetian window set in a recessed blind arch.

Inside, many original fittings remain, particularly in the front hall, which features panels with carved swags over the doors, a fireplace with slightly rusticated blocks and voussoirs, and a panelled overmantel. The interior also includes elaborately moulded doors and internal shutters.
