Description
Smithy Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in Bourton-on-the-Hill. Originally three cottages, it has been converted into a single residence. The structure dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with a 19th-century extension at the rear. It is built from coursed squared and dressed limestone and features an artificial limestone slate roof with artificial stone gable end stacks.
The cottage has an 'L'-shaped plan, consisting of a main body with a former earth closet outshut on the right and a 19th-century extension at the rear right. The garden front is two storeys high and has two windows. It includes three-light stone-mullioned double chamfered windows, some of which have been replaced in the 19th century, all fitted with metal casements that have horizontal glazing bars and stopped hoods. To the left, there is a 20th-century glazed door set in a flat-chamfered surround. Additionally, there are small single light windows with round heads and carved spandrels located on the left wall and to the right of the door in the angle between the main body and the rear extension. The interior has not been inspected.
