Description
Nos 5 and 6 on The Green in Bibury are two houses that were originally a single detached house, dating from the early 18th century. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the sides and rear are constructed from coursed rubble limestone. The building features a brick chimney that has been rebuilt and is topped with a stone slate roof.
It is two stories high with an attic and a cellar, and there is a rear wing attached to No 5. The front façade has a three-window arrangement, all featuring stone cross windows, some of which have leaded lights. The central doorway, which has a beaded opening and a plank door, now serves No 6, while a doorway to the left, with a timber lintel and a plank door, serves No 5. There are also two gabled roof dormers and a chimney mounted on the central ridge.
On the rear side, there is a single-window arrangement in the gable end of the right wing, along with two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements on both the ground and upper floors, and a single attic light. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to outbuilding. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to have a vaulted cellar.
