Description
This is an early 19th-century field barn with an adjoining stable and animal shelters. The barn is constructed of random coursed rubble stone, with a stone slate roof featuring double Roman tiles on the animal shelters. The barn has central cart entries on opposing sides, each with a timber lintel, and double timber doors remain on the west side. A catslide lean-to extends along the east yard side, incorporating a small plank door and two slit vents on each side. The south gable end features a four-bay open animal shelter with a hipped corner to the east and piers made of brick and stone. The barn itself has five bays, with collar and tie beam trusses incorporating queen post struts from the tie beam to the principals. Slit vents are located in the gable ends and on the west side. A stable is situated to the north of the barn and includes a flight of 12 stone steps (reported as dilapidated in March 1986), leading to a gabled loft door immediately on the right of the barn towards the yard, as well as a recessed plank door and square opening. An eight-bay animal shelter extends from the stable, turning a corner to the east and forming an L-shaped plan, supported by square rubble stone piers.
