Description
36 and 38 Long Street is a former pair of houses that have been combined into one establishment. This building dates from the late 17th century and is constructed of coursed rubble stone sitting on a rounded stone plinth, topped with a Cotswold stone slate roof. It features an ashlar stack on the right side with a single diagonally set flue and a moulded cornice. The structure has a single range with four coped gables, each adorned with finials, and it stands three storeys tall.
The building has a total of six windows on the first and second floors, which are designed with stone ovolo-moulded mullions and transoms. The first floor includes a continuous dripmould, while the second floor has a dripmould that has been replaced by a gutter. On the ground floor, there are four similar windows and two doorcases, each with moulded architraves, pulvinated friezes, and moulded flat stone hoods. The door on the left features a small plaque with the inscription "WL 1703" above the frieze. Both doors are composed of four panels, with the top two being glazed and the bottom two fielded. The gables include blind oval panels set in rectangular stone frames, which also have moulded architraves. Some interior beams from the original structure remain visible.
