Description

Spencer House is a large town house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone, set upon an older moulded stone plinth. The roof is hidden behind a parapet with a moulded stone cornice and blocking course. There is a rubble stone stack to the left and an ashlar stack to the right, featuring two diagonally set flues with a moulded cornice. The main range is accompanied by an additional range at the rear, which is set at an angle to the left. The house has three storeys and four windows. The windows are plate glass sashes with cambered head plain stone architraves, keystones, bull-nosed sills, and enlarged sill blocks to the first and second floors, with three windows on the ground floor. String courses run above each row of windows, projecting forward to join the keystones. A door is located to the right, set in a surround similar to the windows, and features a panelled reveal and soffit. The door itself is of eight fielded panels and leads up one stone step. Two cellar grilles are present to the left of the door.
