Description

LONG NEWNTON FOX HILL ST 89 SE (south east end) 7/124 Wiltshire Bridge 27.5.81 II

Road bridge over the River Avon, marking junction between Tetbury and Long Newnton parishes. C16. Squared rubble stone in form of a long causeway with a single small arch spanning the stream. One very large stepped buttress on south side, probably contemporary. Five smaller, later buttresses on north side., Parapet walls with truncated pyramidal coping and offset on outer side, about lm high on south side and 0.75m on north side. Originally marked boundary between Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and the letters G and W are marked on the north parapet above stream which forms the parish boundary. About one third of the bridge is thus in Long Newnton parish.

The asset was previously listed twice also under the parish of Tetbury at List entry 1089645. This entry was removed from the List on 07/10/2014.
