Description
Wiltshire Bridge is a road bridge over the River Avon, located at the junction of Tetbury and Long Newnton parishes. It dates back to the 16th century and is constructed from squared rubble stone, forming a long causeway with a single small arch that spans the stream. On the south side, there is one very large stepped buttress, likely built at the same time as the bridge, while five smaller, later buttresses are found on the north side. The parapet walls have truncated pyramidal coping and are offset on the outer side, standing about 1 meter high on the south side and 0.75 meters on the north side. The bridge originally marked the boundary between Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, with the letters G and W inscribed on the north parapet above the stream, which also serves as the parish boundary. Approximately one third of the bridge is situated within Long Newnton parish.
