Description
The Vicarage is a large detached vicarage located on the north side of The Green in Tetbury. The front section of the building is dated 1771, while the earlier parts date from the early 18th century and possibly the late 16th century. The structure is built of rubble stone, with random coursing on the front range, featuring some punched stone and snecking. It has a Cotswold stone slate roof with stone stacks and is arranged in a long L-shape, with a polygonal right return to the front range.
The building has three storeys and features four windows across the straight wall, which are 12-pane sashes with large stone lintels, and 9-pane sashes on the top storey. On the ground floor, there are two 19th-century sashes, one with plate glass to the right and a triple glazing bar sash to the left. In front, there is an early 19th-century central iron porch that is supported only at the front, topped with a swept lead roof. The doorway has side pilasters and an original door that now includes a large glazed panel at the top and a single horizontal moulded panel below.
The main facade features polygon windows and an oval plaque inscribed "1771 JW" on the blind centre wall. At the rear, there is a very large stepped stone external stack with a blocked opening, likely from the late 16th century, and a small two-storey wing with a parapet that connects to the L-shaped wing from the early 18th century, which has three storeys and 12-pane sashes, along with 19th-century sashes on the ground floor, all across the front of which is the range from 1771.
