Description
Vine Cottage is a building that dates from the early to mid-18th century and was originally two houses that have since been combined into a single residence. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and features a stone slate roof. The building is two stories tall, with a single-storey outbuilding located at the southwest end.
The front of the cottage shows that the earliest part, which is on the right, has two half gables and a two-window arrangement. The ground floor includes a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window, while the upper floor has a two-light window. There is a central doorway that has a timber lintel and a plank door. Two chimneys mounted on the ridge indicate the original ends of the roof.
To the left, there is an addition that features another half dormer with a casement window that has a timber lintel, along with a similar casement window below it and a blocked doorway to the right. An eaves-mounted chimney is located at the junction with the outbuilding on the left. A large late 19th-century addition to the rear, known as Osbornes, is noted but is not considered of special interest. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
